About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor for the CUPE 2626 collective agreement, specifically for the course THE1101 A/B - Introduction to the Practice of Theatre: Backstage during the Fall 2026 semester. The course is part of the Faculty of Arts, Department of Theatre. The role involves supporting the course with an expected enrollment of 60 students. Specific tasks and hours will be negotiated with the supervising professor. All University of Ottawa employees must complete mandatory legislated training. The hiring process will follow the CUPE 2626 collective agreement. Requirements

  • Completed B.A. Honours in theatre or in a relevant field of studies.
  • Working knowledge of technical theatre practices.
  • Understanding of basic techniques of production, stage management, production manager, lighting, sound, costume maintenance, set construction, props, shop safety, and 1st aid.
  • Practical experience as a technician, director, actor, stage manager or production manager in the professional theatre.

Responsibilities

  • Support the course THE1101 A/B - Introduction to the Practice of Theatre: Backstage.
  • Negotiate and agree upon specific tasks and allocation of hours with the supervising professor prior to the commencement of work.
  • Complete all mandatory legislated training offered by the University.
  • Adhere to the CUPE 2626 collective agreement.
