About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the CUPE union, specifically for SED1115 A - Fall 2026. The role involves supporting the course 'Embedded Programming and Scripting' within the Faculty of Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation_ST. The TA will be responsible for tasks including contact with students, grading, proctoring, and other duties as negotiated with the supervising professor. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31, and this specific position is for the Fall 2026 semester.

Requirements

• Strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with multi-person software design (e.g. practical experience with industry tools and at least one high-level programming language like: Java, Javascript, Python, etc.)
• Comfort with embedded controller devices (e.g. Raspberry Pi Picos).
• Comfort with Linux command line and experience debugging software installation issues.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a teaching assistant
• Mentoring students in a software design course
• Assisting students as they learn how to use new design tools to both design and debug their code.

Responsibilities

• Contact with Students: 27 hours
• Grading: 27 hours
• Proctoring: 6 hours
• Other: 5 hours

Benefits

• Undergraduate students will be paid at the lower rate; while graduate students will be paid at the higher rate.
• These rates do not included vacation pay nor statutory pay.
• These rates will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified. Retro will be paid after the ratification.
