About The Position

This is a specific course posting for a Teaching Assistant (TA) role in the Faculty of Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation_ST, for the course SED1113 A: Introduction to engineering and its impact on society during the 2026 Fall Semester. The position involves direct contact with students and other duties as negotiated with the supervising professor. The total work hours are 95, with an expected enrolment of 24 students. The work start date is September 1, 2026, and the end date is December 31, 2026. The hourly rate depends on student status: undergraduate students will be paid at $31.89/hour, and graduate students at $50.25/hour (2024-2025 rates, subject to ratification of a new collective agreement). The language of work is English.

Requirements

  • Experience learning - and ideally practicing - as an engineer
  • Awareness of - and ideally supported opinions on - broader sociotechnical issues linked to engineering
  • The ability and willingness to argue, both productively and professionally
  • The ability and willingness to critique - not criticize - both yourself and others
  • Demonstrated open-mindedness towards new ideas, theories, and perspectives
  • Demonstrated rigour in practice through the integration of theory and experience

Responsibilities

  • Contact with Students: 65 hours
  • Other: 30 hours (to be negotiated with supervising professor)
