About The Position

This posting is for a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor (CUPE) position for the PRINCIPLES OF CHEMSITRY course (CHM1311C) during the 2026 Fall Semester. The role involves giving tutorials, preparing for and proctoring exams and quizzes, and interacting with students. The position is for the Main Campus and is classified under the Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences. The expected enrolment for the course is 350 students, and there are 5 positions available. The work period is from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, with a total of 65 work hours. The hourly rate depends on student status: undergraduate students will be paid at $31.89/hour, and graduate students at $50.25/hour (2024-2025 rates, subject to collective agreement ratification and retroactivity). The language of work is English.

Requirements

  • Candidate must have 1 full year of general chemistry
  • Candidate must have 1 full year of organic chemistry
  • CHM 2454, CHM 2131/2132 or their equivalents
  • Successful completion of WHIMIS and Occupational Health and Safety workshops
  • All those who are not a Chemistry graduate student will be required to write a test to qualify (unless already done in previous semester)

Responsibilities
