About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant/Demonstrator/Lab Monitor for the PRINCIPLES OF CHEMISTRY course (CHM1301-1311 Section B00) during the Fall 2026 semester. The role involves giving tutorials, preparing and proctoring exams, quizzes, and midterms. The total expected work hours are 65, with specific allocations for contact with students (35 hours) and grading (20 hours). The hourly rate depends on student status: undergraduate students receive $31.89/hour, and graduate students receive $50.25/hour (2024-2025 rates). These rates do not include vacation or statutory pay and will be applied until a new collective agreement is ratified, with retroactivity paid after ratification. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31. All University of Ottawa employees must complete mandatory legislated training. The hiring process is governed by the CUPE 2626 collective agreement. Requirements

  • 1 full year of general chemistry
  • 1 full year of organic chemistry
  • CHM 2454
  • CHM 2131/2132 or their equivalents
  • Successful completion of WHIMIS and Occupational Health and Safety workshops
  • All those who are not a Chemistry graduate student will be required to write a test to qualify (unless already done in previous semester).
