Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited education program.
  • A current Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certification.
  • Must meet the requirements of the New York State Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual or group educational instruction to children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Consult with classroom teachers or other service providers.
  • Conduct initial evaluations.
  • Formally and informally monitor a student’s progress through daily log notes, quarterly reports, and annual review testing.
  • Utilize assessment tools to gather information to determine eligibility for services and support plans.
  • Deliver specialized individual and group instruction by adhering to mandated IEPs, ISFPs, etc.
  • Consult and collaborate with other treatment team members and professionals to meet student’s educational needs.
  • Assess and document each student’s progress through formal and informal tests and assessments.
  • Prepare annual review reports and progress summaries for each student in accordance with program due dates.
  • Provide parent and guardian support and education to discuss the student’s progress and strategies for continued support outside of school.
  • Attend meetings as needed to provide input and guidance on service provisions.
  • Plan and prepare the learning environment as well as materials and supplies.
  • Implement the daily program through consistent daily and weekly lesson plans.
  • Follow safety guidelines and directives for the student and the school.
  • Assist with the implementation of any communication devices and assistive technology, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
