About The Position

Astor Services is hiring a Preschool Teacher Assistant for its Head Start program, a federally funded preschool serving children ages 3 and 4 and their families in early learning, health, and family well-being. The Teacher Assistant supports the delivery of educational services in a classroom, including instruction throughout the day, child supervision, ongoing assessments, and potentially home visits. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with summers off.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Obtain New York State Teacher Assistant certification within six months of hire.
• Experience working with children.
• Be a team player with a can-do attitude.
• Ability to embrace challenges and celebrate successes.

Responsibilities

• Create a well-organized learning environment that is welcoming, trusting, and safe.
• Understand and incorporate the principles of play-based learning.
• Use effective classroom management and supervise all children.
• Provide varied classroom experiences that support each child’s emotional, cognitive, language, physical, and self-help skill development.
• Work as a team member.
• Provide coverage as assigned to support the smooth operation of the program.
• Follow safety and health practices in daily duties to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Support instruction, ongoing assessments, and, potentially, home visits.
