About The Position

The Teacher Assistant I supports classroom operations at a Montessori child care center in Chicago, Illinois. The role assists the supervising teacher with Montessori work time, classroom activities, meals, outdoor activities, and children’s care routines. The position is full time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with no required travel. The assistant helps maintain the classroom environment and prepares Montessori materials under the supervising teacher’s guidance. The role also supports arrival and dismissal, snack and meal periods, toileting or diapering procedures, food distribution, and cleaning in accordance with City of Chicago and DCFS standards. The assistant attends meetings and participates in planning programs for the center.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Organizational ability, sound judgment, and effective communication skills.
Ability to plan and implement classroom programs to achieve institutional goals.

Nice To Haves

First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience in day care or Montessori child care/pre-school.

Responsibilities

Manage children’s arrival and dismissal in the Montessori manner.
Maintain the classroom environment.
Make Montessori materials under the guidance of the supervising teacher.
Assist the teacher during Montessori work time by guiding children through their work.
Organize snack times, direct some group activities, and assist with outdoor activities.
Attend staff and in-service meetings and participate in planning programs for the center.
Assist teachers at meal times.
Assist children and adults with toileting or diapering procedures.
Assist the Dietary Aide with food distribution.
Clean tables, floors, and dishes according to City of Chicago and DCFS standards.
