About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Teacher 1 to provide instruction for the Adult Basic Education/General Education Development program. This role involves developing lesson plans, administering tests, evaluating inmates, maintaining discipline, attending meetings, preparing reports, and managing inventory. The department's mission is to reduce recidivism by providing rehabilitative treatment and programming in a safe, secure, and humane correctional environment, aiming to protect the public and help individuals become productive members of society.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree or less.
• Adult Educator four-year permit and/or eligibility to receive a four-year permit from the Ohio Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Develops lesson plans to address needs, including individualized training for assignments.
• Provides necessary instruction for Adult Basic Education/General Education Development program.
• Administers necessary tests.
• Evaluates inmates and provides necessary direction.
• Maintains discipline and/or security of the instructional area.
• Attends education meetings, unit staff meetings, and in-service training.
• Prepares required records and reports.
• Maintains inventory and orders supplies and materials.
• Performs other education and/or related duties as requested by education administrators.
• Performs other duties as required on assignment.
