About The Position

The Maryland Department of Labor is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for an Adult Basic Education Instructor position within the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning (DWDAL). The candidate will create a classroom learning environment in which assigned students make measurable progress towards identified goals as indicated by the successful competition of requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literacy and Life Skills and/or a Maryland High School Diploma.

Requirements

  • Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
  • No experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience teaching in an alternative education setting.
  • One (1) year of experience teaching adult learners.
  • One (1) year of experience teaching institutionalized or disadvantaged populations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct instruction to assigned inmate students, which results in their progress toward successful completion of the requirements for a Maryland State Adult Literacy and Life Skills Certificate.
  • Assist the Principal in areas of school accountability and management by providing advice, guidance and training to teachers.
  • Plan and organize time to provide for effective instruction.
  • Assess and record student progress using a variety of techniques and indicators.
  • Work as a member of an instructional team to achieve success for all students.
