About The Position

Louisiana Delta Community College is seeking an Adult Education Instructor for their Adult Education department. This is an unclassified, administrative/staff position funded by a grant. The instructor will be responsible for teaching adult education classes, planning lessons and curriculum, and creating a supportive learning environment for adult learners. Key duties include assessing student needs, maintaining records, managing program paperwork, and fostering student development. The position also involves participating in registration and testing events, and adhering to college standards and confidentiality regulations.

Requirements

  • An Associate degree or higher.
  • Strong communication skills, including both written and oral, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of personalities.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • Three (3) years teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a classroom setting.
  • Planning lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills.
  • Delivering whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques.
  • Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Assuring that students who qualify are pre- and post-tested as needed using the TABE Assessment as dictated by DRC and Adult Education guidelines.
  • Keeping daily attendance records and progress reports.
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and up-to-date records.
  • Entering all reportable data, according to policy and procedures, into the approved Student Information System.
  • Conducting preliminary interviews to determine a student's eligibility for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) grant & referring to the HEP Program Lead if the student is eligible to be certified.
  • Maintaining all HEP paperwork and ensuring each qualified HEP student completes the criteria for the program.
  • Participating and managing registration, testing, and scheduling events.
  • Establishing a positive and trusting relationship with students.
  • Fostering student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and critical thinking skills.
  • Adhering to regulations set forth regarding confidentiality of student records.
  • Promoting participation of students in all aspects of Adult Education programming.
  • Maintaining clean and professional classroom environment.
  • Adhering to the LDCC's Standards of Practice.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.
