About The Position
Do you want to support students as they work toward important educational goals? As an Adult Basic Education Teacher, Correction Education with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion, you will help incarcerated students reach important educational goals. This position provides the opportunity to teach a wide range of subjects while supporting personal development and learning success. Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum; or Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Administer pre-tests and post-tests to determine placement and measure academic progress
- Create individualized lesson plans and select teaching methods that match student learning needs
- Teach subjects such as math, reading, writing, science, and social studies in a structured classroom setting
- Keep accurate attendance, inventory, and student documentation according to required procedures
- Establish classroom expectations, address disruptive behavior, and support a productive learning environment
