About The Position

The Department of Revenue, Tax Division is recruiting for a Tax Technician 1/2/3 in Anchorage. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Tax Division's mission is to collect and invest funds for public purposes, and the Tax Division supports that work by administering state taxes, regulating charitable gaming, and providing reliable revenue information. As a Tax Technician, you help ensure accurate filings, fair program administration, and smooth operations for taxpayers, permittees, and licensees. You’ll join a small, busy, team-oriented group in Excise that values accuracy, communication, collaboration, and strong customer service. We’re looking for detail-oriented, dependable professionals who enjoy working in a supportive environment where teamwork and consistency matter.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Examine gaming financial statements, tax returns, license and permit applications, and bonding documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide customer service by assisting taxpayers, permittees, and licensees with filing requirements, online portal questions, and general inquiries.
  • Process and reconcile cash deposits, prepare deposit documentation, and ensure accurate recording in division systems.
  • Support program operations by reviewing incoming documents, issuing permits and notices, and assisting with corrections and routine compliance actions.
  • Contribute to consistent program administration by applying policies, identifying issues, and referring complex questions or filings to senior staff when needed.
