About The Position

The Department of Family & Community Services is recruiting for Application Developer 1/2/3 in Juneau! This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for supporting and administering enterprise services and components, using and leveraging a combination of application service systems, including but not limited to relational database systems, version control, operating systems, system integration, and other enterprise class technologies. The mission of the Department of Family and Community Services (DFCS) is "To provide support, safety, and personal well-being for vulnerable Alaskans.” The Network Services (NS) of DFCS works as a team with the Customer Service section of IT, Business Applications (BA), Project Management Office (PMO), and the Department Security Office (DSO) to keep the department technologically operational and secure.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for designing, developing, and testing software in a given environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, tools, and techniques that use object-oriented languages, analysis, and design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
  • Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Knowledge of electric circuit boards, processors, chips, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Assesses and recognizes own strengths and weaknesses; pursues self-development.
  • Training in computer programming or system analysis and/or experience using a computer for analysis (including experience in the use of computer reporting languages); providing software/hardware installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support to end-users; and/or direct computer programming.
  • Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions and skill in designing, writing, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and maintaining the source code of computer programs.
  • Training in computer programming or system analysis and/or experience writing, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, or maintaining a computer program’s source code.
  • Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demand and competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • Anticipates, monitors, and meets the needs of customers and responds to them in an effective, appropriate manner. Demonstrates commitment to identifying customers’ apparent and underlying needs and continually seeks to provide the highest quality service and product to all customers.
  • Training in computer programming or system analysis and/or progressively responsible professional experience developing, testing, troubleshooting, or maintaining computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Support, configure, maintain, custom and/or off-the-shelf enterprise components and services associated with their assigned system(s).
  • Support and administer enterprise services for the department including Azure Services, Microsoft SQL Services, Power BI, Microsoft Reporting Services, Azure DevOps, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Internet Information Server, Microsoft Active Directory/Entra ID as well as other assigned duties.
  • Design and maintain software applications.
  • Identify database, software, and/or application requirements, and help identify technology to meet business use cases.
