About The Position

The Department of Family & Community Services is recruiting an Accounting Technician 1 in Juneau! This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Department of Family and Community Services (DFCS) mission is to provide support, safety, and personal well-being for vulnerable Alaskans. You will play a vital role in the workflow of our office by providing exceptional service and support to our customers, which, greatly contributes to the continued success of our division and department.

Requirements

  • One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Professionalism: Consistently displays the collection of competencies and skill expected of a professional.   • Must provide a list of three (3) professional references including daytime telephone numbers and email address; at least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor.
  • Must answer Supplemental Questions for application evaluation.
  • Must complete the “References” section in the application, providing contact details for a minimum of three (3) individuals who can attest to work performance, technical skills, and job competencies, in which one (1) of the three (3) references must be a current or former direct supervisor.
  • Must fill in the Education section of the application to verify education being used to meet minimum qualifications. If a degree has not been obtained, indicate the number of units completed.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Responsibilities

  • Processing accounts payable and travel documentation.
  • Reconciling OTPAYS, TAPRCs, PRCCs, GAXs, INs, and PRCs.
  • Booking travel for staff.
  • Creating and reconciling TAPOs.
  • Ensuring all final trip receipts are accurately recorded.
