About The Position

Our client, a highly respected public accounting and advisory firm recognized as one of Virginia's premier employers, is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its Business Services Group (BSG). This is more than a traditional tax management role. It's an opportunity to become a trusted advisor to privately held businesses, business owners, government contractors, healthcare organizations, real estate companies, construction firms, nonprofit organizations, and high-net-worth individuals while leading client engagements, mentoring team members, and helping drive the continued growth of a dynamic accounting practice. As a Tax Manager, you'll serve as a primary point of contact for clients, oversee complex tax and accounting engagements, manage staff development initiatives, and contribute directly to the strategic success of both clients and the firm. This role offers a unique blend of tax expertise, accounting knowledge, leadership responsibility, and business advisory work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) license
  • 5+ years of public accounting tax and accounting experience
  • 2+ years of leadership or management experience
  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations
  • Experience managing multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients
  • Develop and maintain trusted client relationships
  • Coordinate engagement timelines and deliverables
  • Participate in budgeting, billing, and engagement profitability management
  • Review complex tax returns and accounting engagements
  • Provide proactive planning strategies and recommendations
  • Research technical tax and accounting matters
  • Assist clients with financial and operational challenges
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Supervise Senior Accountants, Supervisors, and Staff Accountants
  • Mentor and coach team members on technical and professional development
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training initiatives
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
  • Stay current on evolving tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge to complex client situations
  • Ensure work quality, accuracy, and compliance
  • Promote best practices throughout the department
  • Support ongoing process improvement initiatives
