About The Position

The County of Brant is seeking a Tax Clerk to join their Taxation and Revenue department. This role involves handling public inquiries, processing various types of payments and transactions, managing correspondence with financial institutions, maintaining records for the Tax Division, and assisting other finance staff. The position requires a college diploma in Business or Accounting, 1-2 years of experience in a property tax setting, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle confidential information. The role also requires the ability to travel between County offices and facilities, and a willingness to undergo a police records check. Requirements

  • College diploma in Business or Accounting studies or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in a property tax setting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office package including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and to exercise discretion and judgement when handling confidential/sensitive information
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and communication/public relation skills
  • Demonstrated safe working practices
  • Ability to travel between County offices, and facilities, and throughout the County as required
  • Acceptable police records check

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of the OMTRA course

Responsibilities

  • Answer inquiries from the public by telephone and at the counter regarding property taxation and penalty & interest procedures
  • Process all required deposit types, including tax payments, accounts receivable, and transactions related to Operations and landfill operations
  • Responsible for all correspondence with Mortgage Companies/banks including the processing of such payments
  • Responsible for the maintenance and correspondence of pre-authorized payment plans
  • Responsible for the mail and file maintenance for the Tax Division
  • Assist other finance staff as required
  • Other duties as assigned
