About The Position

Target Security Specialists are part of the Assets Protection team, which helps keep guests, team members, and the Target brand secure. The role focuses on promoting a safe and secure environment, mitigating shortage risks, preventing and resolving theft and fraud, and supporting product availability. Specialists build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement.

The position combines guest service with security responsibilities. Specialists support crisis response, safety, crowd management, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, incident documentation, merchandise theft recoveries, and theft apprehension support in accordance with company policies. They are expected to work flexibly, collaborate with peers, and adjust to business and guest needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders.
• Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times; report for scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing duties such as Drive-Up and carryout.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.

Responsibilities

• Deliver an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find products or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adjust to business and guest needs to provide a smooth guest experience.
• Promote a physical security culture by assessing and maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to security incidents and document them accurately and promptly.
• Respond appropriately to guest issues to help provide a safe and secure environment for guests and team members.
• Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents across the store.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Assets Protection policies.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store to help prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
• Submit appropriate incident documentation in the case management system in accordance with Assets Protection policies and procedures.
• Understand and appropriately use Target's video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct and a culture of safety and compliance.
• Work safely, comply with safety policies, best practices, and training, and report or correct hazards where possible.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
