About The Position

The Target Security Specialist works in Assets Protection to help keep guests, team members, and the Target brand secure. The role helps mitigate shortage risks and prevent and resolve theft and fraud while protecting product availability. It involves supporting crisis response, safety, crowd management, de-escalation, physical security, video surveillance, and accurate incident documentation. Security Specialists also build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement.

The position combines security duties with guest service. Specialists help create an easy, inspiring, and friendly shopping experience, respond to guest issues, promote safe conditions throughout the store and exterior property, and support peers in other areas as needed. They must follow Assets Protection policies and procedures, maintain ethical conduct, and adapt to business and guest needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
• Ability to communicate on multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders.
• Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times; report for scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
• Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.

Responsibilities

• Create a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find products or resolve issues, and thanking them after transactions.
• Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
• Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring guest experience.
• Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
• Respond to security incidents and document them accurately and promptly.
• Respond appropriately to guest issues to maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Assets Protection policies.
• Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store, recognize and communicate trends, and help prevent theft and shortage.
• Submit incident documentation in the case management system in accordance with policy and procedures.
• Understand and appropriately use Target's video surveillance system.
• Demonstrate ethical conduct and comply with safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards and correct them where possible.
• Perform other duties based on business needs.
