About The Position

The Target Security Specialist helps maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and team members while supporting a friendly, easy shopping experience. The role uses intelligence-led security practices, crisis response, de-escalation, physical security controls, video surveillance, and case management systems. It also supports shortage prevention and response to theft and fraud, working with store leaders and public safety officials as appropriate. The position is active and physically demanding, requiring flexibility, teamwork, guest interaction, and the ability to remain mobile throughout a scheduled shift. Work may involve varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties. The schedule may vary and include nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet applicable state or local licensure and other legal requirements for the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb up and down ladders.
Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.

Responsibilities

Provide a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them after transactions.
Support peers in other areas and adjust to business and guest needs while maintaining a positive, respectful attitude.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
Respond to security incidents and document them accurately and promptly.
Respond appropriately to guest issues and use de-escalation tactics and resources during security incidents.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support in accordance with Assets Protection policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store, recognize and communicate trends, and help prevent theft and shortage.
Submit incident documentation in the case management system according to Assets Protection policies and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, and report or correct hazards where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
