About The Position

Target Security Specialists help protect guests, team members, the Target brand, and profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks and preventing and responding to theft, fraud, and other security incidents. They help maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store and its exterior, support crisis response and de-escalation, and build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials. The role offers experience with intelligence-led security tactics, crisis response, safety and crowd management, physical security controls, video surveillance, and case-management systems. The specialist also contributes to a friendly and helpful guest experience, supports team efforts, and adjusts to business needs. Work is active and physically demanding, may involve varying temperatures and other elements, and requires mobility throughout a scheduled shift. Schedules may vary and can include nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb up and down ladders and apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds without additional assistance.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak shopping times, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift; shift length may vary.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
Support team efforts, assist peers in other areas, and adapt to business and guest needs while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues in a timely and appropriate manner, and accurately document incidents.
Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following Asset Protection policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store to help prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
Submit appropriate incident documentation in the case-management system in accordance with policy and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; follow safety policies and training, and report or correct hazards where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
