About The Position

Target Security Specialists are part of the Assets Protection team, helping keep guests, team members, and the Target brand secure. The role supports profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks and preventing and resolving theft and fraud, while helping ensure products remain available to guests. Specialists build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement. The position combines guest service with physical security, incident response, theft prevention, and accurate case documentation. Specialists help maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store and its exterior, respond to guest and security issues, use de-escalation tactics, and operate Target’s video surveillance and case management systems. The role is fast-moving, physically active, and team-oriented, with a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times. Target provides training for the role.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb up and down ladders.
Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Availability for a flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and varying hours or shifts; must report for scheduled work, work scheduled shifts, and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly, helpful guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find what they need or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an easy and inspiring guest experience.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property, and promote a physical security culture.
Respond to security incidents promptly and document them accurately.
Respond appropriately to guest issues to help provide a safe and secure environment for guests and team members.
Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents across the store.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, in accordance with Assets Protection policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store to help prevent theft and shortage, follow Assets Protection policies, and recognize and communicate trends.
Submit appropriate documentation for all incidents in the case management system, following Assets Protection policies and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
Work safely, comply with safety policies, best practices, and training, and report hazards and correct them where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
