About The Position

The Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS) is key in sourcing, recruiting, and selecting top talent for diverse roles within the organization. This dynamic position involves not only identifying and engaging potential candidates but also ensuring a smooth onboarding experience through comprehensive new hire orientation. As TAS, you will collaborate closely with managers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative recruitment strategies and retention initiatives with focus on new hires. You will leverage various tools and platforms to attract high-caliber professionals and actively participate in career fairs, networking events, and industry conferences. You will also monitor hiring trends and stay updated on best practices to continually improve the recruitment process. By fostering strong relationships and maintaining an exceptional candidate experience, you will play a crucial role in building a talented and dedicated workforce that drives the success of the organization.

Requirements

  • Degree and/or certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or similar
  • 2-3 years of experience in doing full cycle recruitment
  • Experience recruiting for positions in an unionized environment
  • Previous work experience Human Resources, ideally recruitment
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, Excel, HRIS and Applicant Tracking Systems an asset
  • Strong skills using teleconferencing and video conferencing tools (ex:, MS Teams, Zoom, etc.) an asset
  • Experience and ability to work with confidential information/situations an asset

Responsibilities

  • Consult with Managers, Supervisors, or Directors to determine recruitment needs and identify hiring criteria.
  • Identify and implement innovative and effective recruitment and retention strategies, and design attractive job postings.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement all recruitment activities including posting jobs, sourcing candidates, reviewing resumes, conducting phones screens and interviews, executing background/reference checks, creating offer letters and/or contracts, and onboarding new hires.
  • Ensure that recruitment practices align with VHA’s DEI strategy, VHA recruitment policies, and collective agreements for unionized roles.
  • Keep accurate records of information regarding applicants and recruitment.
  • Utilize Workday and GoldCare to maintain hiring records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with recruitment agencies, job developers, and employment centers to identify talent for the organization.
  • Monitor internal activities and external information to identify trends and impact on the organization.
  • Investigate unique recruitment/hiring strategies and make recommendations for use at VHA.
  • Maintain records and statistics for HR activities and projects.
  • Write correspondences, reports, and other support for HR Department.
  • Ensure that employee and service provider files are accurately created and maintained in the recruitment and HRIS systems for new hires.
  • Participate in team meetings with a commitment to contribution and service development.
  • Take part on project teams as appropriate.
  • Work within the policies, procedures and regulations as required by VHA and under the Ontario Health & Safety Act, ESA, Human Rights Code, and common law.
