About The Position

Minnkota Power is seeking qualified applicants for a Talent Acquisition Specialist I located at our headquarters in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Talent Acquisition Specialist I is a highly visible and collaborative member of the Human Resources Department, supporting all aspects of talent acquisition. This position leads full-cycle recruiting and onboarding to meet hiring needs and deliver a positive new hire experience. The Talent Acquisition Specialist I partners with department managers to develop job descriptions, establish hiring criteria, and align compensation within the organization’s structure while executing effective sourcing and selection strategies. The role also coordinates onboarding processes, including orientation, compliance documentation, and follow-up engagement with new employees. This position also drives continuous improvement of recruiting and onboarding processes, tools, and metrics while supporting employee engagement and related HR initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or other applicable area; or work experience in combination with education reflecting an equivalency.
  • Human Resources certification (or ability to obtain certification within 1 year of employment).
  • Three to five years of Recruiting & Human Resources experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state and Federal laws pertaining to HR is required.
  • Must exercise the highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Must be detailed-oriented and possess a high degree of accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements recruitment strategy.
  • Collaborates with department managers to identify and draft accurate job descriptions, define hiring criteria, and validates compensation alignment.
  • Identifies and implements efficient and effective recruiting methods, recognizes when to vary strategy based on the role, location, etc.
  • Creates the job posting and determines sourcing process.
  • Screens applications and helps managers select qualified candidates.
  • Schedules interviews, oversees preparation of interview questions/guide and other hiring materials.
  • Assists with the interview process, attends and conducts interviews.
  • Collaborates with the hiring manager during the offer process to recommend salary ranges, start dates, other pertinent details, and extend offers to candidates.
  • Process all candidates and hires in the recruiting HRIS system.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, company policies, and contracts.
  • Represents Minnkota at career fairs and other educational institutions to promote our industry and its opportunities within the region and community.
  • Identify higher education and military sourcing pools relevant to Minnkota’s hiring needs; build and foster an active partnership for near term sourcing.
  • Engage in community events at area K-12 schools for longer term sourcing strategy, in partnership with Communications department.
  • Manages relocation process for both external candidates/new hires and the relocation of current employees to a new work location.
  • Analyze sourcing effectiveness and adjust accordingly.
  • Assist with AAP and EEOC annual processes and plans.
  • Completes and monitors new hire drug testing, background and nepotism reporting processes.
  • Identifies waste in recruiting process and adjusts to reduce time to hire.
  • Assists with updating HR Scorecard with recruiting metrics, owns metric updates.
  • Develops and implements recruiting toolkit for hiring managers.
  • Support power plant location and member cooperatives with recruiting as needed, particularly with highly specialized roles
  • Assist HR Coordinator with onboarding new employee in HRIS system.
  • Assist HR Coordinator in partnering with teams (IT, Security, etc.) to build new employee profile and system(s) access.
  • Manages the first-day orientation of new employees to include: scheduling of presenters, coordination of orientation day activities.
  • Facilitates completion of all onboarding and new hire paperwork on employees’ first day to include: Form I-9, W-4 and direct deposit, benefits applications, benefits enrollment, and all other internal paperwork.
  • Schedules and executes a follow-up meeting with new hires to answer any questions and ensure they are settling into their new role and team.
  • Analyzes onboarding survey results and incorporates feedback to refine processes.
  • Partners with Communications department to project manage semi-annual industry education program for new employees.
  • Administers hiring manager onboarding checklist and leads development into formal onboarding toolkit.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meaningful experiences and events with the HR Coordinator.
  • Assist with employee engagement and feedback surveys.
  • Continually assess and evaluate the impact Cooperative practices and policies have on the recruiting/onboarding experience.
