Systems Support & Integration Engineer-USV

RED CAT HOLDINGS•Fort Pierce, FL
•Onsite

About The Position

Blue Ops designs, builds, and fields autonomous unmanned surface vessels (USVs) for defense and national security customers. The Systems Support & Integration Engineer supports the integration, troubleshooting, testing, and fielding of complex unmanned vessel systems. This hands-on role involves diagnosing issues across software, networks, electronics, sensors, and physical hardware, including onboard compute, communications equipment, cameras, radar, GNSS, autopilot hardware, vessel networks, power systems, and other integrated electronics. The engineer is expected to methodically identify whether failures originate in software, configuration, networking, power, wiring, hardware, or system interfaces, and to pursue issues through verification and resolution. Work may involve Linux terminals, device connectivity, logs, and configuration checks, as well as multimeter use, wiring inspection, hardware replacement, and work aboard vessels during integration and testing. The position is based onsite in Fort Pierce, Florida, with travel up to 50%, including customer sites, test ranges, partner locations, and potential international travel. Early starts, extended days, and occasional weekend work may be required around test events. The role combines office and laboratory work with hands-on vessel integration and outdoor testing.

Requirements

  • 1–4 years of experience in systems support, integration, field engineering, test engineering, robotics, embedded systems, IT/OT, or a related technical role.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, networking, power, wiring, and configuration.
  • Working familiarity with Linux, SSH, command-line tools, logs, and basic system configuration.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including IP addressing, Ethernet, DHCP, and static IP configuration.
  • Ability to use a multimeter and troubleshoot basic low-voltage DC electrical systems.
  • Comfort working physically on electronics and equipment aboard small vessels.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, network diagrams, technical manuals, and interface documentation.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Ability to manually lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to crawl, kneel, crouch, bend, climb, and work in confined or awkward spaces while installing, inspecting, and servicing equipment on and around vessels.
  • Ability to safely board and move around boats, docks, and uneven or wet surfaces.
  • Comfort working outdoors and in marine environments, including dockside activities and on-water testing.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer background check.
  • For work subject to ITAR/EAR restrictions, proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence and no need for sponsorship for export-restricted work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, IT, or a similar field.
  • Experience with USVs, UAS, UGVs, robotics, marine electronics, defense, aerospace, automotive, or other complex integrated systems.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or other embedded Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with radar, cameras, GNSS/INS, Starlink, RF communications, CAN, NMEA 2000, or serial interfaces.
  • Experience with ArduPilot, ArduRover, PX4, MAVLink, or Pixhawk.
  • Experience with Wireshark or similar troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with field testing, demonstrations, commissioning, or deployed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve faults across USV onboard systems, including compute, sensors, communications, cameras, radar, GNSS, autopilot hardware, vessel networks, and supporting electronics.
  • Perform structured troubleshooting of hardware, software, configuration, networking, power, wiring, sensor, and system-integration issues.
  • Determine root causes rather than relying solely on component swapping or temporary workarounds.
  • Support vessel system checkout before testing, demonstrations, deliveries, and customer events.
  • Verify onboard systems are communicating, correctly configured, and operating as expected before deployment.
  • Review system logs, service status, device health, and other diagnostic information to isolate failures.
  • Troubleshoot Linux-based onboard computers and embedded systems using SSH, command-line utilities, logs, and system services.
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting involving IP addressing, Ethernet connectivity, static IPs, DHCP, switches, and device-to-device communications.
  • Perform low-voltage DC electrical troubleshooting using a multimeter, including checking power, continuity, grounding, fuses, relays, connectors, and wiring.
  • Identify recurring system issues and work with engineering teams to develop durable corrective actions.

Benefits

  • Base pay, a generous annual equity package, and potential bonuses.
