Systems Integration Engineer

About The Position

Agile Defense is hiring a Systems Integration Engineer to build external integrations and data services for Target Effect Pairing (TEP), built on the Maven Smart System for USPACOM Joint Fires. The role connects TEP to external systems, including command and control systems and a simulation engine, across multiple classification levels. The engineer will develop schemas, REST and gRPC interfaces, MCP servers, ETL and streaming pipelines, record linkage, data lineage, and multi-classification data handling. The engineer will work with the Lead Software Architect, who owns the interface control documents and canonical data model, and with full-stack engineers who build on these services. Integration tracks depend on separate government approvals, so preparation may need to proceed before access is available. Success includes establishing the first external data flow through an agreed interface, deploying a pipeline with source lineage recorded, and tracking each required government approval and its status and owner. The role will deliver both integration tracks as approvals arrive, prepare interfaces and tests in advance, detect external interface changes before they affect downstream systems, and ensure that recommendation data can be traced and audited. Record linkage results should include measured confidence, and errors should be visible. APIs and MCP servers should be documented for other engineers and agents. Data must remain correctly marked through pipelines, and classification-boundary handling must be documented clearly enough for security review. The position is based in the National Capital Region and involves work in secure facilities and travel 50% of the time. Work is primarily in professional office, Government, and technical development environments, with regular on-site collaboration in the San Diego area, including with Government and development stakeholders at or supporting NIWC-Pacific. Periodic travel may support operational stakeholders and other mission activities. Secure facilities may restrict personal electronic devices and remote connectivity. Physical demands are sedentary to light, with occasional movement or transport of standard work materials; the role requires regular computer and office-equipment use, extended participation in meetings and technical sessions, effective communication, and travel as required.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to drive progress and create clarity in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to maintain required TS/SCI access; TS/SCI eligibility is required.
  • Work takes place in secure facilities.
  • Ability to participate in meetings, technical working sessions, and collaborative development activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and through approved electronic means.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing schemas in Protobuf, JSON Schema, or Avro that multiple teams have built against.
  • Experience building REST or gRPC services and, if possible, MCP servers.
  • Experience running ETL and streaming pipelines in production.
  • Experience implementing record linkage or data lineage and explaining how its accuracy was measured.
  • Experience handling data at multiple classification levels in DoW environments.
  • Experience integrating with systems outside one's control under a government approval process.
  • Experience integrating with Maven Smart System or command and control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build external integrations and data services for Target Effect Pairing (TEP), connecting to systems such as command and control systems and a simulation engine.
  • Design schemas and interfaces, including REST and gRPC interfaces and MCP servers.
  • Build ETL and streaming pipelines, record linkage, and data lineage capabilities.
  • Handle data across multiple classification levels, maintaining correct markings and documenting classification-boundary handling.
  • Coordinate schemas and interfaces with the Lead Software Architect and canonical data model.
  • Prepare interfaces, test data, and tests in advance of government approvals and deliver integration tracks as access becomes available.
  • Track government approvals, including their status and owner, for each integration track.
  • Detect external system interface changes before they break downstream services.
  • Ensure recommendation data is traceable from source system, make record-linkage confidence measurable, and expose errors rather than allowing them to remain silent.
  • Document APIs and MCP servers for use by other engineers and agents.
  • Collaborate with full-stack engineers, Government stakeholders, and development stakeholders, including at or supporting NIWC-Pacific.
  • Travel as required, with the position stating travel of 50% of the time.
