About The Position

RTX, the world's largest aerospace and defense company, is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join its Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety team. This role will ensure that the avionics (primary) and electric power (secondary) systems serving commercial aerospace customers are safe, reliable, and ready for modern aviation challenges. The engineer will influence system-level design decisions, guide programs through critical safety milestones, and help build trusted products. This is an onsite role in Cedar Rapids, IA, with relocation assistance available.

Requirements

University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
Experience in aircraft systems (avionics, electric power, etc.) or reliability, safety engineering.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools.
Basic knowledge of ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297.
Experience preparing and presenting technical information to peers, all levels of internal management, and to external customers.
Experience coordinating projects and complex engineering activities.
Basic knowledge in reliability engineering theory.
Verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and presenting to peers, leadership, and customers.

Responsibilities

Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761, including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Preliminary System Safety Assessments (PSSAs), System Safety Assessments (SSAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs), and Common Mode Analyses (CMAs).
Support systems, hardware, and software engineering teams in defining system safety requirements during development activity.
Review of design and development documentation for safety critical equipment.
Review analysis of peer safety engineers.
Apprentice under group's Technical Lead.
Be accountable to team members and organizational leadership for committed work and responsibilities.
Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology, etc.).
Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and organizational leaders to develop plans.
Be a recognized technical expert in system safety.
