The Systems Integration Engineer ensures complex, multi-component systems operate seamlessly by designing integration strategies, validating performance, and resolving interoperability challenges across hardware and software environments. The role develops and maintains system and subsystem architectural descriptions for an L4 autonomous off-highway vehicle, including physical hardware architecture, compute hardware, sensors and actuators, system and subsystem functions, functional interfaces, physical connectivity, communication networks and protocols, functional inputs and outputs, and hardware/software allocation. The engineer defines and documents system boundaries, interfaces, dependencies, assumptions, and interactions, and maps vehicle functions to the systems, hardware, software, sensors, actuators, communications, and interfaces that implement them. The role also supports development and maintenance of interface-control information and functional and physical architecture. Working with the safety engineer, the Systems Integration Engineer provides design information needed to map identified hazards and safety requirements into the system architecture. The engineer works directly with third-party suppliers to obtain and integrate information on component and subsystem architecture and interfaces, functional and failure behavior, safety mechanisms, assumptions and dependencies, and supplier safety analyses and safety-case information. The role identifies gaps or inconsistencies between supplier information and the vehicle-level architecture.
