Systems Engineer, Insights and Analytics (SDS Trucking)

Applied Intuition•Sunnyvale, CA

About The Position

Applied Intuition is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong data background to own insights, analytics, and development metrics for its SDS trucking team. The role defines how autonomy performance and engineering progress are measured, then uses fleet, test, and simulation data to assess system status and identify areas for improvement. The position contributes to the technical direction of the trucking program. The Systems Engineer develops metrics and analytics tooling, monitors performance and regressions, and informs engineering priorities. The role also covers systems requirements, validation strategy, verification and validation across simulation and physical testing, and readiness reporting for engineering leadership and customers. Close collaboration with autonomy, perception, hardware, safety, and test teams is expected. Applied Intuition is an in-office company. Full-time employees are expected to work primarily from an Applied Intuition office five days a week, with occasional flexibility for remote work and schedule adjustments.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering, verification and validation, data science, or a related role in ADAS, autonomous driving (L2–L4), or robotics; L4 experience is preferred.
  • BS or MS in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Robotics, Data Science, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing large datasets with Python and SQL, including statistics and data visualization.
  • Experience defining and reporting metrics that drive decisions on a development program.
  • Ability to read production code (Python, C++, or similar) well enough to trace behavior through an autonomy or robotics stack.
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements, functional decomposition, architecture, and test planning.
  • Experience with verification and validation for ADAS/AD or robotics, including defining what is sufficient for launch.
  • Working knowledge of fault management and a solid understanding of AV stack components.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining data-driven findings to engineers, leadership, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Autonomous trucking, off-highway, or off-road autonomy experience.
  • Simulation-based validation and scenario-based testing.

Responsibilities

  • Define development and autonomy performance metrics and implement them in code using fleet, test, and simulation data.
  • Build analyses and tooling using Python, SQL, or similar tools to turn large datasets into insights about performance, gaps, and launch readiness.
  • Track metrics over time, identify regressions early, and guide engineering priorities with data.
  • Read autonomy stack code to trace system behavior to requirements and root causes.
  • Write system requirements and define the validation strategy and roadmap to launch.
  • Drive verification and validation across simulation, closed-course, and on-road testing.
  • Build dashboards and readiness views for engineering leadership and customers.
  • Collaborate across autonomy, perception, hardware, safety, and test teams.
