Systems Engineer, Insights and Analytics (SDS Trucking)

Applied Intuition•Sunnyvale, CA
•$140,000 - $250,000•Onsite

About The Position

Applied Intuition is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong data background to own insights, analytics, and development metrics for its SDS trucking team. The role defines how autonomy performance and engineering progress are measured, then uses fleet, test, and simulation data to assess system performance and identify areas to improve. It contributes to the technical direction of the trucking program. The position defines and implements development and autonomy performance metrics, builds data analysis tools and dashboards, tracks performance and regressions, and informs engineering priorities and launch readiness. It also involves tracing system behavior through autonomy-stack code, writing system requirements, defining validation strategy and roadmap, and driving verification and validation across simulation, closed-course, and on-road testing. The engineer collaborates with autonomy, perception, hardware, safety, and test teams. Applied Intuition is an in-office company. Full-time employees are expected to work primarily from an Applied Intuition office five days a week, with flexibility for occasional remote work and schedule adjustments. This expectation does not apply to contractor positions.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering, verification and validation, data science, or a related role in ADAS, autonomous driving (L2–L4, with L4 preferred), or robotics.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Robotics, Data Science, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing large datasets with Python and SQL, including statistics and data visualization.
  • Experience defining and reporting metrics that drive decisions on a development program.
  • Ability to read production code such as Python or C++ well enough to trace behavior through an autonomy or robotics stack.
  • Strong systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements, functional decomposition, architecture, and test planning.
  • Experience with verification and validation for ADAS, autonomous driving, or robotics, including defining what is sufficient for launch.
  • Working knowledge of fault management and a solid understanding of autonomous-vehicle stack components.
  • Strong communication skills to explain data-driven findings to engineers, leadership, and customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in autonomous trucking, off-highway, or off-road autonomy.
  • Experience with simulation-based validation and scenario-based testing.

Responsibilities

  • Define development and autonomy performance metrics and implement them in code using fleet, test, and simulation data.
  • Build analyses and tooling using Python, SQL, or similar to turn large datasets into insights on performance, gaps, and launch readiness.
  • Track metrics over time, identify regressions early, and guide engineering priorities with data.
  • Read autonomy-stack code to trace system behavior to requirements and root causes.
  • Write system requirements and define the validation strategy and roadmap to launch.
  • Drive verification and validation across simulation, closed-course, and on-road testing.
  • Build dashboards and readiness views for engineering leadership and customers.
  • Collaborate with autonomy, perception, hardware, safety, and test teams.
