Systems Engineer II - Guidance, Navigation, and Control (Onsite)

RTX•Tucson, AZ
•$75,800 - $144,200•Onsite

About The Position

The Processing Guidance & Control Center is hiring a Systems Engineer in Tucson, Arizona, to support current and upcoming missile programs. In this Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) role, you will help evaluate, design, implement, and integrate embedded software algorithms. The GNC department characterizes system aerodynamics through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel testing, and designs, integrates, and optimizes effector guidance, tracking, navigation, and estimation algorithms to meet mission objectives. Solutions are evaluated through system-level flight testing and lower-level subsystem testing and evaluation. You will collaborate with an integrated product team responsible for tactical embedded software, firmware, and six-degree-of-freedom simulations to achieve overall system performance requirements.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in engineering, science, physics, mathematics, or a related STEM field, obtained by the start date.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and/or object-oriented design and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: GNC systems, modeling and simulation techniques, digital and/or modern control systems, dynamics, Kalman filter design, signal processing (electro-optical, infrared, or active/passive RF), navigation systems, sensors (IMU/GPS) and algorithms, Assured Position, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) systems, aerodynamics, or CFD. Experience may come from work, research, coursework, or projects.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain an interim U.S. government-issued security clearance prior to the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • A major in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Class projects, professional internships, or academic research demonstrating the ability to apply technical coursework or computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team setting, organize tasking, and work with colleagues toward a shared goal or vision.
  • Prior internship, co-op, or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support execution of current and upcoming missile program portfolios.
  • Help evaluate, design, implement, and integrate embedded software algorithms.
  • Contribute to characterization of system aerodynamics through computational fluid dynamics and wind tunnel testing.
  • Design, integrate, and optimize effector guidance, tracking, navigation, and estimation algorithms to meet mission objectives.
  • Evaluate solutions through flight testing at the system level or testing and evaluation at lower subsystem levels.
  • Collaborate with an integrated product team working on tactical embedded software, firmware, and six-degree-of-freedom simulations.
