Guidance and Control Systems Engineer II

JPL/NASA•Pasadena, CA
•$118,248 - $144,144

About The Position

The Guidance and Control Systems Engineer II will join the Guidance and Control Section within JPL’s Mechanical & Control Systems Division and work on the Europa Clipper project as part of its Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Operations team. The role involves analyzing and operating advanced GN&C systems, helping develop and operate those systems, and coordinating the validation and documentation of their performance before delivery to customers. JPL’s Guidance and Control Section supports system engineering, design and analysis, hardware development and procurement, testing, and operations for deep-space, Earth-orbiting, and astrophysics missions. The section also conducts research and technology development in autonomous guidance, navigation, and control, including pinpoint and safe landing, space rendezvous, formation flying, and precision pointing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline and at least 3 years of related experience; or a master’s degree in a technical discipline and at least 1 year of related experience; or a Ph.D. in a technical discipline.
  • Technical background in modern guidance, estimation, and control applied to aerospace systems.
  • Ability to translate problems into concrete, executable plans and drive them to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and effective leader, with excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience researching and developing advanced GN&C systems for deep-space exploration.
