About The Position

As a non-profit mountain recreation area, Bogus Basin is committed to engaging the community in affordable, accessible, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Caring for the land and our natural resources is essential to sustaining that mission. The Sustainability & Stewardship Coordinator leads and coordinates the organization’s sustainability efforts, working across departments to reduce environmental impact and support long-term stewardship of the mountain. This role focuses on three key areas: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving land health, and increasing community awareness of climate action and ecosystem stewardship. Success in this role depends on strong cross-department collaboration, clear communication, and shared ownership of sustainability initiatives.

Requirements

  • Degree in sustainability, ecology, biology, botany/horticulture, natural resources, environmental sciences or similar field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years managing projects and staff in the sustainability or conservation space
  • Working knowledge of habitat restoration best practices
  • ISDA Pesticide Applicators License, or willing to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and has maintained a safe and clean driving record.
  • Passion for the Bogus Basin Mission
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Proficient computer skills and experience using, but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Earth, etc.
  • Work effectively with internal teams and partners with varying priorities to advance shared goals
  • Excellent data collection and organization skills
  • Desire to care for open spaces and the environment
  • Excellent ability to articulate concepts related to ecosystem services, climate action, and related topics
  • Strong plant identification skills
  • Able and willing to design and create education resources to communicate with the public about stewardship and sustainability initiatives
  • Ability to navigate mountainous terrain with or without GPS or maps.
  • Background check required.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age

Responsibilities

  • Identify and support implementation of key greenhouse gas reduction projects with internal departments and partners
  • Track and report on project progress and outcomes
  • Train and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers to implement waste diversion systems
  • Foster cross-departmental engagement and accountability for sustainability initiatives
  • Support planning and implementation of solar development projects
  • Conduct greenhouse gas emissions inventories and report progress in alignment with the NSAA Climate Challenge
  • Coordinate participation in Idaho Power energy incentive programs and track outcomes
  • Manage noxious weed treatment in coordination with the Director of Mountain Operations
  • Train and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers in weed management and habitat restoration
  • Maintain treatment records in compliance with USFS policy
  • Collaborate with Mountain Operations to reduce weed spread and monitor new populations
  • Manage seed collection, propagation, and planting programs with regional partners
  • Plan and implement reseeding and planting efforts on construction and restoration sites
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with universities, agencies, and community organizations
  • Represent Bogus Basin at sustainability and conservation events
  • Support development of marketing and educational materials
  • Plan and execute community sustainability events, including National Public Lands Day
  • Apply for and manage grants
  • Track program metrics and outcomes
  • Manage the department’s operating budget
  • Regularly report on sustainability initiatives to leadership and at staff meetings
