About The Position

The Sustainability Advisor develops and implements recycling and diversion programs and promotes the Company’s recycling efforts. The role works directly with customers by telephone, onsite visits, events, trade shows and educational outreach to identify customer needs and teach proper recycling techniques, improving the quality of materials received at the Company’s Recycling Centers. The Advisor also supports food waste recycling and waste reduction initiatives, customer education, program reporting, community engagement and recycling service recommendations.

Requirements

At least 2 years of experience in a customer-facing role that includes identifying and addressing customer needs.
Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Monitor and evaluate existing commercial and special-event recycling programs, recommending educational and service improvements.
Coordinate with the Operations department and provide input and strategic guidance regarding customer collection schedules.
Create, develop and implement food waste recycling outreach programs and promotional materials for schools and businesses in the market service area.
Draft and deliver classroom presentations and respond to inquiries about recycling and waste reduction programs.
Prepare and distribute communications to help customers eliminate materials that contaminate recycling waste.
Create or assist with Company publications, including newsletters, reports, brochures, pamphlets, advertisements and slide shows.
Perform commercial waste audits and assessments, recommend waste and recycling service levels, and conduct or participate in waste characterization studies as requested.
Provide customers with written reports of audit and assessment findings and recommendations.
Compile contractual food waste recycling tonnage statistics, analyze data for accuracy and trends, review monthly outreach reports, and maintain reporting deadlines.
Research grants and other funding sources for recycling and waste reduction projects and assist with securing applicable funds.
Promote recycling and diversion programs and Company visibility through community events, trade shows, chamber of commerce meetings and other relevant events.
Schedule proactive phone blocks to establish initial and follow-up appointments with customer decision-makers.
Use Company tracking and customer-based tools daily to schedule and document activities and build customer profiles that support proper recycling habits.
Schedule and conduct tours of local transfer stations, landfills and other facilities.
Perform other job-related duties as required.
