About The Position

Ayres Associates is hiring a Survey Technician for its Land Survey Group, based in the Madison, Wisconsin office. The role involves both field and office survey and mapping work supporting clients across a variety of industries. The technician works with crew chiefs, other technicians, project managers, and professional land surveyors to support surveying activities and prepare land surveying documents. Overtime and occasional out-of-town and overnight travel are anticipated.

Requirements

At least 1 year of relevant experience in surveying services, including design surveys; geospatial control and lidar QA/QC; construction layout; land surveys such as ALTA and right-of-way plats; or WisDOT surveying procedures.
Technical proficiency in the use of survey equipment and software.
Ability to walk over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

Two-year degree in land surveying, civil engineering technology, a related field, or higher.
Experience with Trimble survey equipment and software.
Experience with Civil 3D/AutoCAD and MicroStation.
Ability to keep thorough notes and perform necessary survey calculations.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients and project managers.
Self-starter who can work independently and adapt to working in a team setting.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of field and office survey and mapping tasks.
Use survey field equipment, including GPS/GNSS and robotic total stations, and CADD platforms including MicroStation and Civil 3D.
Assist and communicate with crew chiefs, technicians, and project managers in support of their duties.
Support professional land surveyors in preparing land surveying documents.
Adhere to OSHA and other required safety practices.
