About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region in Anchorage, is looking for a Survey - Sub-Journey 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! In this role, you’ll be an integral part of a field survey team, operating and maintaining advanced equipment such as Total Stations, GPS receivers, and Digital Electronic Levels. You’ll ensure the crew has the tools and materials needed to complete tasks efficiently while keeping detailed and accurate survey notes to support project goals. The position involves handling equipment like gas-powered jackhammers and performing line clearing using tools such as machetes and chainsaws. This is a hands-on opportunity to work in diverse and challenging environments, including rough terrain, noisy conditions, and adverse weather, where your skills and resourcefulness will be key to success. The Survey Section provides support in the design of highway and aviation projects. The section is team oriented. This position’s incumbent will be responsible for field survey data collection, maintaining field survey equipment and supplies, and promoting a positive atmosphere throughout the section. Requirements

  • Valid Alaska Driver's License is required.
  • Must be physically able to perform field survey duties which include but are not limited to: working in both urban and remote environments, able to walk long distances while carrying survey equipment, operate and maintain survey equipment, and frequently use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to learn and understand field survey skills.
  • Ability to accept criticism as part of the learning process.
  • Ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
  • Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect.
  • Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.
  • Knows one's location in relation to the environment; determines where other objects are in relation to one's self (for example, when using a map).
