About The Position

The Surgical Technologist works in the Operating Room at Chelsea Hospital, where more than 5,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries are performed annually across gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, general surgery, otorhinolaryngology, podiatry, plastic surgery, and spine surgery. The role applies surgical asepsis principles and practices to prepare instruments and supplies, maintain a sterile field, and pass instruments to surgeons. The Surgical Technologist anticipates surgeons’ needs by demonstrating knowledge of surgical procedures and human anatomy and physiology.

This is a day-shift position in Chelsea, Michigan. The role is available full- or part-time at 72 or 48 hours per pay period, respectively, and is benefit eligible. There are no on-call requirements. Weekend Alternative program participants commit to working at least 48 of 52 weekends each year and receive pay for an additional four hours per pay period above hours worked as a benefit of the commitment.

Requirements

• Graduation from a certified surgical technologist program.
• Surgical Technologist Certification is required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical instruments and supplies using the principles and practices of surgical asepsis.
• Maintain a sterile field.
• Pass instruments to surgeons within the sterile field.
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs by demonstrating knowledge of surgical procedures and human anatomy and physiology.
