About The Position
The Surgical Tech works in the Main OR at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham, facilitating the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. The position is full-time, with four 10-hour day shifts and required call. The role prepares the operating suite, assists with patient preparation and positioning, provides instruments and supplies during surgery, and monitors instrument organization and counts.
Requirements
- High school diploma equivalency and completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component, or a minimum of four years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
- Call is required.
Nice To Haves
- BLS Provider certification is preferred; American Heart Association or American Red Cross credentials are accepted.
- Associate’s degree or technical degree preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
- Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to the surgeon during surgery.
- Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.
- Keep instruments organized and monitor and track instrument counts throughout procedures.
- Assist surgeons with providing hemostasis during surgery.
- Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
