About The Position

The Surgical Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for managing the administrative aspects of surgical scheduling, ensuring all necessary documentation, authorizations, and verifications are in place prior to procedures. This role involves direct patient and facility interaction, accurate record-keeping, and collaboration with various departments to facilitate smooth patient care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum 1- year experience in surgery/procedure scheduling
  • Familiarity with CPT codes, as well as ICD 9 and ICD 10
  • Knowledge with pre-verification / pre-authorization for patients
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Extreme politeness and customer service attitude to patients and facilities where procedures are being scheduled
  • Team player, working in a respectful and cooperative manner with other office staff members
  • Dedicated work ethic and concern for overall patient well-being

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates processes and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
  • Provides accurate, thorough and complete documentation of all information pertinent to patient treatment.
  • Returns and responds to all calls relating to scheduling timely.
  • Ensures medical clearances are obtained by patient prior to surgery.
  • Obtains authorizations prior to surgery date.
  • Ensures insurance verifications are received prior to procedures.
  • Takes payments for procedures and past due balances.
  • Reschedules procedure appointments as needed.
  • Helps with other ancillary tasks including but not limited to following up with patients that no-show or cancel surgical appointments, sending H&P orders and consents to outside hospitals.
  • Works as a team member within the patient services department and all other departments.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management.
  • Documents work processes as required.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.
