The Surgical Preservation Coordinator (SPC) is primarily responsible for overseeing all organ donor perfusion and organ preservation processes. This role involves intraoperative leadership of a medical team and managing the recovery of all solid organs. The SPC requires advanced anatomical knowledge, surgical skills, and technical expertise. They participate as a member of the transplant team, providing deceased donor organ pulsatile machine perfusion and organ procurement/preservation services. The SPC collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists/CRNAs, nurses, surgical technologists, and OR staff, acting as the operative expert for organ recovery. This position demands organization, ingenuity, and adaptability to handle unforeseen surgical and logistical challenges in real-time to ensure successful organ recovery and maximize the supply of transplantable organs. The SPC also serves as a consultant to donor hospital OR staff, providing expertise to facilitate the recovery process. This role requires a high degree of autonomy, including managing time for office responsibilities such as data entry, meeting attendance, continuing education, and cross-functional team participation.
