About The Position

MedVet is seeking a part-time Surgery Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The Surgery team works in a fast-paced environment and offers training across multiple facets of the department, with interaction across other hospital teams. The role requires strong communication to liaise between surgeons and clients and provide post-operative care instructions. The schedule is Mondays and Fridays, with on-call expectations. Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary is required.

Requirements

Prior veterinary experience required.
Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
Previous surgery experience desired.

Responsibilities

Manage appointments, obtain patient histories, maintain medical records, handle invoicing, and discharge patients.
Fill medications, enter charges, maintain accurate medical records, and schedule appointments.
Create patient releases and discuss treatment plans and financial obligations with clients.
Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing, and positioning; assist with intubation and radiographs.
Perform blood draws and submit bloodwork.
Ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
Open, turn over, and clean operating rooms; clean instruments and wrap packs.
