About The Position

The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the surgery process. Duties include verifying insurance, obtaining pre-operative certifications and authorizations, completing required hospital forms, scheduling pre-operative labs and testing, and coordinating post-surgery care. The coordinator also triages surgical candidates as required by physicians, educates patients about planned surgery, and works with surgeons and hospital personnel to coordinate required information, medical clearances, and testing. The role supports Tenet Physician Resources' mission and complies with Tenet's HIPAA and corporate compliance requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of experience working in medical insurance or a healthcare-related field.

Nice To Haves

• Previous surgery scheduling experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to and support the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of Tenet Physician Resources.
• Follow the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
• Support the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by understanding compliance responsibilities, following applicable laws and policies, and reporting compliance issues.
• Triage surgical candidates as required by physicians.
• Work with appropriate hospital personnel to obtain information needed for surgery scheduling.
• Educate patients about planned surgery.
• Verify insurance information in the electronic system and obtain necessary authorizations before surgery.
• Work with surgeons to obtain medical clearances and preoperative testing required by hospital protocols.
• Confirm and reschedule return appointments as necessary.
• Notify the manager about patient account and insurance issues.
• Provide assistance to administrative or clinical staff as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
• Complete necessary hospital forms and schedule pre-operative labs, testing, and post-surgery care.
