About The Position

Join our progressive non-profit organization this summer as a Support Worker through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This temporary position offers the chance to gain valuable experience working with individuals with various abilities in day programs, community settings, or group homes. You will be assisting adults who may have physical, developmental, mental health issues, and/or acquired brain injuries. The role requires exemplary communication skills, compassion, and energy, with a comfort level in supporting individuals with diverse disabilities. Successful candidates will be part of a support team and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Temporary summer positions have the potential to become permanent in the fall.

Requirements

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • Class (5) BC driver's license or Government-issued ID
  • Minimum of one (1) year in university/college
  • Criminal Record Clearance
  • Negative TB Test
  • Food Safe
  • First Aid/CPR C
  • Experience with Behavior Management
  • Experience with Personal Care
  • Experience with Medication Administration
  • At least 1-2 years of experience with various disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct care, support, and assistance to individuals
  • Following individual care plans
  • Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
  • Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
  • Completing daily documentation
  • Hospitality duties: cleaning, cooking, laundry
  • Working as a team player
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and welcoming environment
  • Leisure recreation activities
