About The Position

The Food Bank Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by Cambridge Community and Family Services. This role involves assisting with the processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting of food donations, preparing items for distribution, and maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the food bank area. The position also requires ensuring clients are treated with dignity and respect, handling food bank intake calls, stocking program materials, and accurately recording statistical data. Adherence to health and safety standards, including those recommended by Public Health and The Salvation Army's policies, is crucial. The role may also involve assisting with food drives and performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to lift/move more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to reach, bend, and stoop frequently.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry).
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program.
  • Assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
  • Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of the food bank area.
  • Assist with food drives if needed.
  • Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Receive phone calls for food bank intake.
  • Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
  • Adhere to all health and safety standards.
  • Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required, in collaboration with Senior Community Services Worker.
