About The Position
The Food Bank Support Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of food distribution services to individuals and families in need. This position involves hands-on tasks such as collecting donations, organizing inventory, preparing food hampers, and engaging with clients in a respectful and compassionate manner. Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and drivers abstract
- Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 50 lbs
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful client service
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
Responsibilities
- Pick up food donations from local grocery stores and community partners
- Accurately weigh and record all incoming donations
- Maintain detailed documentation of donations, including source, weight, and type
- Sort and shelves donated food items according to food safety guidelines
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages or excesses
- Ensure proper rotation of stock to minimize waste
- Assemble food hampers based on dietary needs and family size
- Hand out hampers to clients in a welcoming and respectful manner
- Maintain confidentiality and dignity of all clients
- Set up and organize the Food Rescue Store for client access
- Staff the store during opening hours, assist clients and maintain daily log of how many clients we were able to serve
- Ensure the store remains clean, stocked, and organized
