Metal Part Machining focuses on operating computer or mechanically controlled machines to produce and repair metal parts for manufacturing. Analyzes engineering specifications or blueprints to define the dimensions and features of the metal part to be produced. Determines the optimal tool path for fabricating the part by selecting appropriate machine tools (e.g., lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, boring machines, etc.) and specifying the sequence of tool operations. Manually sets up/adjusts machine tools. Recommends revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems. Impact of the Role General Profile: Working supervisor of a team (spends a portion of time performing the work supervised) or supervises the daily activities of production team members. Must have one or more of any direct report type. Analyses information to solve on-going problems and implements procedures and approaches to complete work. Responsible for results of the team. Provides direction to team using extensive knowledge of established precedents and practices. Consistent exercise of discretion & judgment.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3-5 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees skilled trade workers who produce and repair precision metal parts and tools for use in manufacturing.
  • Supervises repair & maintenance machine shop operations and inspects finished parts and tools against specified tolerances.
  • Reviews work orders and scheduling resources.
  • Monitors machine shop tools/equipment and adjusts setups, calibrations, and alignments where required.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers.
