About The Position

The Supervisor, Fleet Service Warranty is responsible for providing supervisory warranty support and training for maintenance employees, ensuring compliance with the warranty provisions of procurement contracts. This supervisor assesses current practices within the Maintenance Division; acquires information on state-of-the-art practices in the industry, and works with managers, supervisors, and mechanics to establish and bring into regular use the best practices available.

Requirements

  • Any of the following combinations of progressively responsible experience in fleet maintenance, heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, vehicle warranty, or closely related experience AND completed education degree in Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic or closely related field WITH at least (1) year of supervisory and/or proven leadership experience.
  • High school diploma/GED and eight (8) years of experience
  • Associate's degree or two-year (2) vocational program and six (6) years of experience
  • Metropolitan Council Employees Only. Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience.
  • You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application.
  • Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.
  • Program Number of years of supervisory experience program counts for Metro Transit Leadership Academy 1 year
  • Project Management Development Program-12-month session 1 year
  • Project Management Development Program-6-month session 6 months

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all warranty contract terms and conditions are complied with.
  • Interacts with the vendor's representative or authorized agent on all aspects of bus maintenance, warranty repairs, preventive repairs, campaigns and or retrofits.
  • Coordinates the movement of buses between all Metro Transit service garages and the vendor's off-site repair facilities.
  • Conducts regular field visits to garages and remote warranty warehouses to provide technical support and ensure accurate processing of warranty claims.
  • Reviews, approves, and records all warranty repairs done off-site, up to and including off-site inspection of repair facilities.
  • Oversees the physical inventory of the warranty holding warehouse.
  • Edits and analyzes data to track warrantable repairs and or service failure trends.
  • Maintains and updates the warranty reporting database as necessary to ensure vendor compliance with Metro Transits warranty policies, procedures and contract provisions.
  • Reads, interprets, and implements manufactures written guidelines regarding warranty claim filing, field service procedures, bus maintenance and instruction to service bulletins.
  • Reviews all returned claims, balance amount submitted against amount received and reconciles any differences.
  • Manages inventory standard costs.
  • Participates in warranty contract negotiations.
  • Submits fleet defects with the Original Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Backfills as a garage supervisor.
  • Other duties will be assigned including sharing knowledge with other staff.
