About The Position

This seasonal position is responsible for leading and conducting activities with assigned groups in support of the Parks, Recreation & Community Affairs Department’s Summer Program. This includes organizing and developing interest in activities such as arts and crafts, sports, games, music, and hobbies. The position requires the ability to work flexible hours. Work is performed under the supervision of the Parks, Recreation & Community Affairs Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants must be at least 17 years old to be considered for this position.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles, machinery, and office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount constantly. Light Work involves significant walking or standing.
  • Ability to compare and judge observable characteristics of data, people, or things.
  • Ability to convey or exchange information, give instructions, and direct subordinates or program participants.
  • Proficient in reading and preparing various documents.
  • Capable of speaking before groups with confidence.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret various instructions.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
  • Effective in technical or professional communication.
  • Ability to use mathematical formulas and perform basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
  • Ability to use office and athletic equipment accurately.
  • Ability to handle office equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to differentiate colors and shades.
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.
  • Ability to talk and hear, and communicate via telephone.
  • Knowledgeable in principles, practices, and safety of sports and recreational activities.
  • Skilled in using office machines and software, and communicating effectively.
  • Maintains accuracy and corrects deficiencies promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the planning, implementing, and facilitating of special youth activities and events in support of the Parks, Recreation & Community Affairs Department’s Summer Program.
  • Issues and oversees the use of equipment and materials and assists in the care and maintenance of equipment and cleanliness of the facility.
  • Performs general office duties by keeping records, preparing reports, answering the telephone and dispensing general information as needed.
  • Ensures the safety of participants, manages group adherence to discipline, and ensures participants follow behavior guidelines and safety rules, particularly during field trips.
  • Ensures the administration of safety precautions and procedures.
  • Performs other related work as required.
