About The Position

Choices is a recognized leader in providing supports and services for people with developmental disabilities. This is an on-site position for a Recreational Activities Coordinator Summer Student.

Requirements

  • International students are not eligible participants.
  • Post secondary education in Recreation, Leisure Studies, CYW or equivalent is required.
  • Have the ability to work in a team or in an independent environment.
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment
  • Meet all requirements set out under the Canada Summer Jobs Program
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the vulnerable population.
  • Valid Driver's license and access to vehicle
  • Must provide a complete and current (within three months) Vulnerable Sector Check or be willing to obtain one.
  • The ability to engage in all aspects of Safe Management and valid First Aid/CPR Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs that address the needs and interests of the people supported, in collaboration with the Support Professionals and Program Manager.
  • Plan and execute engaging group and one-on-one activities tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident.
  • Foster social interaction and inclusion among residents, encouraging participation and building confidence.
  • Document attendance, participation, reactions, and progress to ensure individualized care and support.
  • Engage people supported in relaxation techniques, exercise routines, and other recreational activities to promote physical and mental well-being.
  • Perform administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and organizing documents.
  • Work in a position of trust with the people supported.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as and when required.
