About The Position

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking summer interns to join its Engineering department in Wichita, Kansas, for the 2027 Summer Internship Program. Interns will support aircraft structural design engineering activities, which may include design, static analysis, fatigue and damage-tolerance analysis, and the development of design data sets such as 3D models, 2D drawings, bills of material, and change notes. Work may also involve supporting modifications or repairs and performing analyses for metallic or composite aircraft components. The engineering team works across the aircraft life cycle, from product development and manufacturing to direct support for airline customers. The Wichita facility is Airbus’ first dedicated engineering facility outside Europe. Its more than 200 support staff and engineers focus on aerostructure design and analysis of primary aircraft structures, including wings and fuselages, for Airbus products worldwide. The internship is full-time and onsite unless otherwise approved by management and human resources. The program runs from May 17 through August 6, 2027. Candidates must attend the SWE 2026 Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, and be willing to relocate to Wichita for the internship. The opportunity requires authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

  • Currently pursuing a minor in Computer Science.
  • Exposure to or knowledge of engineering tools including airframe design, MRB, CATIA, Isami, NASTRAN, and PATRAN.
  • Basic knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods and a basic understanding of design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design engineering activities supporting aircraft production or in-service aircraft.
  • Support assignments that may include detail-part modeling and sizing, layout maturation, trade-study analysis, weight-reduction efforts, certification activities, or in-service support.
  • Prepare detailing data in support of trade studies for airframe structures.
  • Develop solutions to simple, routine technical problems of limited scope, applying technical principles and following detailed instructions.
  • Communicate issues, solutions, ideas, and work status effectively to supervisors.
